Joyaux Renaissance - Galerie Kugel

This book illustrates over 150 artworks presented at Galerie Kugel for the 2000 exhibition “Joyaux Renaissance”, as well as a catalogue of the jewel plaster casts and models from the workshop of Alfred André (1839–1919). The ambition of this exhibition was to rediscover the field of Renaissance jewels, in collaboration with Dr. Rudolf Distelberger, Assistant Director of the Kunstkammer du Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and Michèle Bimbenet-Privat, Chief Curator in France. These jewels, from the 13th century to the end of the 17th century, are sometimes subtle and delicate, and sometimes ostentatious, composed of elaborate emblems, with architectural, animal or vegetal forms, a profusion of enameled gold with dazzling colors, Baroque pearls or diamonds. These jewels are the reflection of the persons who ordered them and show their personality. Made of precious materials, they were the powerful and princes’ privilege and punctuated their life: christening medals, wedding necklaces, clothes ornaments, crosses…

With a catalogue of the jewel plaster casts and models from the workshop of the restorer Alfred André (1839–1919).
